Marin SMART Train Project

During a 5-week residency at the Headlands Center for the Arts, I created a time-based, interactive Jell-O sculpture. I used the Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) Project--a currently proposed public transportation system--as inspiration for the sculpture. Each of the five proposed train stations in Marin was an individual Jell-O structure, displayed along a model train line. I invited local urban planners and designers to collaborate on how they imagine the development of a city or town center. I also asked visitors to contribute their own buildings.

This sculptural work-in-progress was not an argument for any particular urban form, but ideally inspired conversations around urban development. The fleeting material also visualized how our urban environments are alive and changing.
