Help fund my new art installation!!

About the project:

I’ve created a site specific installation for the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art’s windows as part of the Surreal Sublime show.  I was honored to be chosen for this opportunity and I need your help! These large prints will be on view from Thursday, June 20th through the end of 2019. While the prints are already installed, the fundraising will help pay the bills. I’m hoping to raise $9,000 to cover the costs of printing and artistic production of this installation. So far I've raised $3500 and there is still time to contribute!

How you can help:

  • Donate whatever you feel comfortable giving to the SJICA (all donations are 100% tax deductible)

  • 100% of the funds would cover materials/production costs and an artist stipend

  • Receive a “reward” from the artist for the various tiers of donations, like one of the four prints pictured above

"Liz Hickok's installation in the Façade will be an anchor for the exhibition, as it is the first artwork visitors will see. The artwork will glow from inside lighting at nighttime, making contemporary art accessible to a wide and diverse audience by presenting beautiful and thought-provoking artwork to anyone who walks or drives along south First Street."

The Surreal Sublime show and the ICA

This summer, the ICA’s exhibition Surreal Sublime will feature twelve artists exploring natural and psychic landscapes through abstracted, exaggerated, and dream-like interpretations of nature. Surreal Sublime will be on view at the ICA from June 22, 2019 through September 15, 2019.

As part of the exhibition, Liz Hickok will present a vinyl installation on the Façade gallery space featuring imagery from her Ground Waters series. The piece is titled First myth of outside and inside (a reference from the Poetics of Space.) Liz Hickok’s window installation is tentatively scheduled to stay on view through October 2019, and therefore will be up during the ICA’s annual Fall Auction. The piece will usher viewers into a show with works that, in the words of the ICA, "capture a range of emotions, teetering between the natural and the synthetic, seductive and dangerous, calm and chaotic."

Hickok’s installation in the Façade will be an anchor for the exhibition, as it is the first artwork visitors will see, and will increase the exhibition’s visibility. The artwork will glow from inside lighting at nighttime. This innovative presentation makes the artwork visible from the street and immediately available for viewing, enhancing the vibrancy of downtown San Jose and attracting viewers who might not necessarily enter the gallery during normal business hours. Having artwork in the Façade space makes contemporary art accessible to a wide and diverse audience by presenting beautiful and thought-provoking artwork to anyone who walks or drives along south First Street (also known as downtown San Jose’s “SoFA district”).  This includes the hundreds of people who flock to nearby restaurants, theaters, and nightclubs each week. The ICA estimates that 20,000 people per year view the Façade installations.

The ICA is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and your donation will be tax deductible.
